SCHOLASTIC ACTION SHOOTING PROGRAM (SASP)
The Arnold Junior Shooters Scholastic Action Shooting Program is a team-based program that focuses on a steel plate shooting discipline in a program designed by the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation, although other formats may be incorporated at times. The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) is the national governing body for youth speed shooting on steel targets, offering kids from 12 years old through college the opportunity to safely participate in their exciting team-based Scholastic Action Shooting Program (SASP) — a sport that can truly be enjoyed for lifetime.
In addition to providing a safe and enjoyable shooting activity, SASP is designed to instill in young people a set of personal values or character traits for fair play, compassionate understanding, individual responsibility, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and personal commitment. Like the sport itself, these qualities will stay with them throughout their lifetimes, helping each young athlete reach his or her full potential.
Our athletes compete in a centerfire and/or a rimfire division, shooting targets which are steel circular or rectangular steel plates, at distances varying from 24 to 75 feet. All courses of fire are timed events.
Regional and national competitions are available spread through a competition year.
Starting with our first competition in 2012-2013, our young shooters have won numerous gold, silver and bronze medals, plus recognition of many individual honors, and scholar-athlete recognition for numerous individuals.
