SCHOLASTIC ACTION SHOOTING PROGRAM (SASP)

Arnold Junior Shooters Scholastic Action Shooting Program focuses on a steel plate shooting discipline following the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation program, although other formats may be incorporated at times. The Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation (SSSF) is the national governing body for youth speed shooting on steel targets, offering kids from 12 years old through college the opportunity to safely participate in their exciting team-based Scholastic Action ShootingProgram (SASP) — a sport that can truly be enjoyed for lifetime.

Like all the sports SSSF offers, SPP is designed to instill in young people a set of personal values or character traits for fair play, compassionate understanding, individual responsibility, sportsmanship, self-discipline, and personal commitment. As the sport itself, these qualities will stay with them throughout their lifetimes, helping each young athlete reach his or her full potential.

Our athletes compete in a centerfire and/or a rimfire division, shooting targets which are steel circle or rectangular plates, at distances varying from 24 to 75 feet. All courses of fire are timed events.
Regional and national competitions are available spread through a competition year.

Since our first competition in the 2012-2013 competition year, through the end of the 2013-2014 competition year, our participants have won six gold medals, four silver medals, two bronze medals, individual honors recognition four times, and scholar-athlete recognition for numerous individuals.

The Scholastic Pistol Program, Midwest Regional Championship was held Friday April 17th and Saturday April 18th, 2015, at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta, IL. The Pistol Team competed in two divisions within the Junior Class (12-16 years old): Junior Rim-Fire and Junior Center-Fire. There were four individual recognition awards given for top performances.

The AJS Pistol Team took three of the four individual awards, as well as the Gold in each division in which they entered. These First Place wins included Gold Medals, with top prize money to be deposited into the team’s Midway USA Endowment. (The Midway USA Endowment account allows each team to spend 5% per year of deposited funds.)

These latest wins are the fifth and sixth Regional Championship wins since 2013, with four Midwest Regional Championship wins, and two Southeast Regional Championship wins (Kentucky in 2013, and Tennessee in 2014), with Second Place (Silver Medal) wins in the 2013 and 2014 in the Midwest Regional Championship.

The National Championships will be this July 13—18, 2015 at the World Shooting and Recreational Complex in Sparta, IL. The AJS Pistol Team will be the defending champions in the Junior Rimfire division and will be seeking a gold in one or more divisions. Approximately 40 teams from all over the country complete in each division. Last year it was announced that this was the largest Youth Action Pistol Event ever held in the United States.

The AJS Pistol Team has had four wins at the National Championships in two years (2013 and 2014). One (Gold Medal) First Place win in each year as well as a (Silver Medal) Second Place win in 2013, and a (Bronze Medal) Third Place win in 2014. In our first competition (a regional competition in 2013) the team won a Silver Medal, but then brought home one or more Gold Medals from each of the next seven competitions, to bring the total to 9 Gold Medals, 4 Silver Medals, and 2 Bronze Medals.

Last August was the first SPP Missouri State Championship (at the COPS range outside of Rolla, MO). The AJS Pistol Team won First Place (Gold Medal), Second Place (Silver Medal) and Third Place (Bronze Medal), taking all the individual high honors, and all of the prize money (again, to be deposited into the Midway USA Endowment Fund account).
